I miss my love stick.

Nothing too exciting to report, as of yet. I miss Korea, in the sense that I miss sort of everyday life. Today was the first day I got out and about around the American public in a year, and it was extremely odd. In all of the ways that I expected it would be -- the English speaking everywhere, everyone being enormous, not being stared at (as much). Smalltalk with strangers that wasn't marred by language timidity on either side. The men.

God, the men are different. Not in a bad or good way -- just different. Hairy and five-o'clock-shadowed and broad and -- well, this is Texas -- wearing workman's clothing.

I feel positively tiny. And, for the record, I'm not.

The food is destroying my stomach. I'm going to have to take it easy for the next two weeks.

Advantages to being home include helping my little cousin with his algebra homework, like the genius that I am, being able to sit out on the porch at night and talk to Mike on the phone, and continuing to visit with the baby nephew.

The next couple of days will see me trying to sort out a bit of fall clothing shopping, while also tending to the house while my grandparents are away. Babies and housewife duty. Don't get any big ideas. I'll be back in the ROK, swinging my love stick around again, in no time.

Ahem. Too much?

How's the vacation going?

And can you make it so I never left Korea? My head hurts from commuting already.

I'm close to just hoping back on a plane and trying to find a job with there and hiding in a dark corner of your apart-uh like a gremin chainsmoking making meanspirited comments, if you'll have me.

Also. Gino, my boss signed a copy of his cookbook and gave it to me within the first ten minutes of my first day.

You know you're always welcome in my apartuh. Got an extra room and everything.

Haha. Is there a picture of him on the front of the cookbook? What kind of food is it? BBQ?

How was the first day, by the way?

Oh. Stories to tell. Probably many more over the next few weeks. Lunchee with giant ex-cons who are all very very nice people.

Think you'll be able to give me a ring sometime this weekend?

I knew there would be stories.

I love giant ex cons. Find me a husband, while you're at it.

Yeah I'll call you this weekend. When's a good time? What's your work schedule like, anyway? You 9-tah-5in again?

9-5ish. Or Gino trying to get me to come into harlem at 6. Don't ask. I need to have a conversation with him about some things already.

Friday would definitely be good. I'm probably just going to come home from after work and cry. Maybe buy a case of vodka.

I'll probably be around saturday and sunday as well. Hey. Monday is a holiday.

You want husband? I find. I find.

What holiday is Monday??

I'll call you on Friday, then. Going to try to touch base with Smalltown before then, so I might have some stories. I left him at 4 am holding a beer in the middle of the street in BP on Friday morning.

All I know is, at 8:30 am I got a super sappy text about what a great friend I am and how much he loves me, so who knows where he ended up after that....

Hah. Smalltown. Oy.

Monday is columbus day.

I ate oxtail for lunch. it was salty.

Tonight me and my cousin's husband Chris were gushing fangirl style about Anthony Bourdain, and we came to the conclusion that he definitely ate dog while he was in Korea and they cut it from the show because it would've caused too much conflict if they aired it.

So.... oxtail, eh?
